NeoCon East vp: 'Green', gov't two keys to commercial success
The sixth annual NeoCon East show, held recently in Baltimore, was a success as far as show organizers are concerned. While attendance was flat (approximately 8,000 show goers, which is comparable to last year numbers), the number of exhibitors rose by 7 percent to 302. Additionally, the show included 48 seminars and association forums -- more educational courses "than ever before," organizers noted.

Commercial Flooring Asks, Are we ‘Green’ enough yet?
While “Green” – as in “environmental sustainability” – has long been a driving force in the commercial flooring business, the gauge to measure standards is evolving rapidly. The gold standard remains the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification process, but now that environmental considerations are a dominant theme other third-party ratings processes are elbowing their way onto the scene.

Case Study: DUBAI TERMINAL 3, DUBAI AIRPORT
Dubai International Airport is one of the world’s fastest-growing airports, and is in the midst of a long-term plan for expansion. Terminal 3 was recently completed after three years of construction, and features 3.8 million square feet of a Brazilian stone called Panha Fragola Corcovado, or “PF”. PF presented a serious sealing challenge because the stone contains soluble pyrite (an iron sulphide) which can absorb water from the mortar bed during curing and cause severe discoloration. IKAN, Inc, a local distributor of Aqua Mix care and maintenance products, recommended a six-sided sealing solution in order to protect the stone from moisture throughout the 28-day curing process.
