NOFMA's Haggard speaks about merger with NWFA
Bob Haggard, president of NOFMA, spoke to NFT recently about having his more than 100-year-old organization become part of the National Wood Flooring Association. He said the merger was in the works for a little more than a year and was necessary to ensure NOFMA would not lose its "brand awareness," particularly its grading and certification system.

Looking to the year ahead (and putting this one behind us)
Greetings.
First off: Happy Holidays from
the staff of National Floor Trends.
With only a couple of weeks left in the year, many
in the flooring industry are eager to say good riddance to 2008. We are
all looking forward to a new year that will bring a new outlook and new
opportunities. I think it is safe to say we all have had enough of the
gloomy economic news that will forever be associated with the year now
drawing to a close.

DaltileGreenworks site explains company’s ‘green’ products, message
Daltile has launched the DaltileGreenworks
program, an extension of parent company Mohawk’s Greenworks environmental
sustainability initiative. Along with promotng Daltile’s “green” philosophy on
its website, the program is aimed as a resource for dealers and builders
searching to learn about the LEED rating system and how it relates to “green”
tile products.

J&J/Invision donate rugs to troops in Afghanistan
J&J/Invision recently received an American
flag and a message of thanks from U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan. The company donated 50 rugs to the soldiers
to help keep them warm during the winter months. The flag will be displayed in
the front lobby at the company’s corporate office in Dalton, Ga.

Carpet & Rug Study Fewer rings (but higher price tags)
The typical floor
covering retailer is selling less carpet, but is bringing in more money on each
transaction. In our new survey, dealers said they average about 60 carpet
transactions a month. While the figure is a decline from two years ago when the
average was 69, during the same time frame the price per carpet transaction
climbed from $2,400 to $3,509. Meanwhile, the number of retailers who reported
annual carpet sales in excess of $1 million rose from 28% of those in the
survey two years ago to 37% today

Ustek Inc., in partnership with China's Augin Team International,
presents a new modular three-part tile system called EcoTekTiles.

Ardex, TEC among suppliers ‘preferred’ by ReSource group
Ardex Engineered Cements and
Specialty Construction Brands have been named preferred suppliers by the
ReSource Commercial Flooring Network, a member-owned network of commercial
flooring contractors throughout the U.S. As preferred suppliers, the companies
will offer products, installation training and technical support to members of
the ReSource network.

Armstrong to upgrade vinyl plant for $25 million
Armstrong said it will invest $25
million in its Lancaster, Pa., flooring plant to produce fiberglass-backed
sheet vinyl products. The move, which will create “the most technologically
advanced sheet vinyl manufacturing facility in the world,” represents
“Armstrong’s largest investment in sheet vinyl manufacturing in over 10 years,”
the company said.
